MarCum LX-3tc True Color Ice Flasher Review

The MarCum LX-3TC is a performance ice fishing system that is a formidable competitor to the Humminbird ICE series.

It is a typical flasher that has a dial as the main display where you can see SONAR returns – stronger colors are stronger returns (rocks, floor), and lighter colors are lighter returns (fish, plants).

The LX-3TC is a single beam unit with a TrueColor display – what this means is that there are three sets of lights, one for each color, resulting in a brighter image even in direct sunlight. This is especially useful since snow and ice reflect sunlight, making things very hard to see anyway.

The beam is 20 degrees, which is adequate for ice fishing, and the transducer works well for depths up to 20 to 30 feet. Once you get deeper than that, you’ll still be able to manage, but you’ll get much better performance with a dual beam transducer. The LX-3TCs bigger cousin, the LX-5 has a dual beam transducer.

You can also zoom the display to focus on a particular area – so you don’t have to look at all 20 or 30 feet of the water column – you can choose to focus on the top few feet, middle few feet, or bottom few feet, depending on where your target fish happen to be swimming around.

The power rating is 2,000 watts(peak to peak), and you can see target separation of as accurate as 2 inches.

The flasher comes with a 12 volt, 9 amp battery out of the box and comes in a soft padded case which you can take with you on the ice. A snow-protection faceplate is also included, and the unit is covered by a manufacturer’s 2 year warranty.
